Shaved Chimp vs Economic Genius

Gweeds makes a good point:

If all our economic woes are made in America as Gordon claims, why is that their economy is showing healthy growth (despite high oil prices) and the U.K. economy is flat-lining?

Could it have something to do with George Bush's timely $150 billion bi-partisan growth stimulus package in February?

I was in the US earlier this year, and the TV and papers were full of "how to get your cheque as quickly as possible" advice. Cutting taxes, giving (their own) money to people to spend on essentials that those people want. Here, on the other hand, we have "tax and spend" and each of the three big parties bragging how much more they're going to tax and spend than the other guys.

Result? UK has 0% growth, US has 3.3% growth, despite having all the same economic factors that Gorgon "The Fuckwit" Broon blames on the bloody Yanks! The bit that really, really baffles me though: when I talk to people down the pub or in various online forums, they still seem to think that tax and spend is going to help.

WAKE UP PEOPLE: TAX AND SPEND DOES NOTHING TO HELP ECONOMIC GROWTH! IT ONLY PLACES GREATER AND GREATER LONG-TERM DRAG ON THE ECONOMY.

Erm... and what exactly was Bush's "growth stimulus package" if not tax and spend? Sure, the spend was by the punters, not central govt., but even eedjit Brown could make our GDP look better if he "gave" us all a wodge to spend (providing that we ignore that we would have to pay for it eventually, but, hey, that doesn't figure in the calculation of GDP, so let's not worry).

Sorry, Guido is way off base on this one.

Bush has managed to keep his 2003 tax cuts in place. He also refunded taxpayers $160billion of their own money. Admittedly, he's nowhere near balancing the budget, but I'd rather Gordon gave me a wedge of my own cash back than spend it on "social justice".

And if DerekSmith is reading this, hopefully it will convince him that I'm nowhere near the levers of power in the Libertarian Party.

What have I missed?

@Patrick: I have an occasional reader who seems to think that the LPUK is a useless organisation because the poverty of my reasoning indicates the inadequacy of the LPUK overall. He seems to think that because of my "Making a case" posts, I am some sort of Libertarian "thought leader" ...

Well, you did ask! :o)

Oh, OK.

BTW, I like those pieces that you wrote, don't stop :-)

Bush has done this before, allowed his taxpayers to keep more of THEIR money and hey presto, they spend it and stimulate the economy. McBroon dare not do this as he doesn't trust us to spend our money wisely. He does this for us (badly). He is an utter incompetent bastard who should be hanged as slowly as possible. He hates us as do all the Noo Labour scum. Those who voted for this evil party should commit suicide publically for their wretched crime.
