Go Mancunia!

I hear the Northern gobshites delivered a unanimous kicking to the congestion charging proposals, with all wards rejecting it. Apparently it was something like 4 to 1 against.

But while we're throwing our hats in the air in joy, who wants to give odds on how long before the question gets re-asked or the council just fucking does it anyway?

Update: The government has clearly got the message. Not!

Well done Manchester.

Surely the gummint wouldn't just re-run the poll with a slightly different question? Not even the Irish gummint would be devious enough to ... oh, I see.

"Surely the gummint wouldn't just re-run the poll with a slightly different question? "

Or a different electorate, maybe get rid of those pesky outer parts of Greater Manchester.

Interesting times make for interesting friends.

I've never had any strong feelings for the Irish, Germans or Mancunians before (for or against)...but I'm coming to respect their opinions.

I stand open to correction, but I believe I heard on Aljabeeba that this wasn't "a referendum" it was "a consultative exercise"

And, as such, the result is not binding and they can say "Thank you for your views, BTW the Congestion Charge starts 1st Jan and it £10 each way" or whatever.

I just hope Bristol don't do it now.

As for the chance that the Council will re-do the "consultation" or just implement it anyway - 100%. It's what Bristol City Council are planning to do with Residents Parking Charges.

The people of Manchester will now somehow be 'punished' by the local authority for this shameful act of rebellion.

We had a 'consultation exercise' about whether we wanted an extension of local Residents Only parking bays.
In each of the arears affected the residents voted 10-1 against on a turnout that exceeded that of the local elections.
The council conceded the result but told us that certain areas of 'demand' had been identified.

It will not surprise you to know that the council is implementing the scheme bit by bit ( half a road at a time ) and it will be fully in place within 5 years. Cunts.

"It's not possible or desirable to build enough roads for free-flowing traffic."

Er, why? Ecofascists use this canard every time, and no-one ever picks up on it.
