Sorry, it's in German, but the upshot of this is that anybody with a laptop and a 23 Euro piece of generally available kit can crack DECT encryption. That doesn't sound too worry, until you discover that all those cordless credit card machines in restaurants use ... DECT!
Do these fucking fucks in the supposedly security-aware financial sector have a fallback option? My guess is no.

Isn't there any good news for us to kick off the New Year with?
If my memory serves me correctly the encryption standard for GSM phones was downgraded from what the networks wanted to use, as governments wanted them to be easy to monitor. Maybe the same thing's happened again?
