"This is war: countries have to defend themselves," said David McWilliams, a former official at the Irish central bank.
"It is essential that we go to Europe and say we have a serious problem. We say, either we default or we pull out of Europe," he told RTE radio.
"If Ireland continues hurtling down this road, which is close to default, the whole of Europe will be badly affected. The credibility of the euro will be badly affected. Then Spain might default, Italy and Greece," he said.
As much as I like to indulge in idle revelrie about the Eurozone collapsing, the fucktards in the Irish government are far too deeply enmeshed in the Euro thing, so it ain't gonna happen.
But what a lovely idea, and they won't even be able to blame it on us. (I'm sure it won't stop them from trying!)

Yes, they may well lack the bollocks and backbone to do it, BUT the good thing is that now someone has floated the idea in public. So the other semi-third-world members such as the Greeks (fond of a bit of direct action ) may well decide they're better off with their own currency and a huge boost to their tourist numbers.

The irony, Ireland has enjoyed a massive economic boom at the hands of billions of euro's in direct aid, now times are tight they float the idea of pulling out... Economic rhythm method! Good for them, they have more backbone than the slaves across the irish sea
@Barnsley Bill: The direct aid was just the EU's bribe to get the Irish into the team. Now it's dried up and they're seeing the reality of it, I reckon it's fair do's that they tell the EU to fuck off and take their currency with them. ;o)
I agree.
As an Englishman at large in the Commonwealth I feel shame at what my parents did when they kneecapped our allies and allowed the french and germans to spit roast us..
removing England (note I ignore the benficaries areas to the the North and West) from the EU is an imperative. We should then get on our knees and beg Canada, Australia and NZ to forgive us.
Fully agree.
BUT - let's face it, the Canadians had every opportunity going. They could have had British Government, French Culture, and American Technology.
They chose French Government, American Culture, and British Technology.

Penguin, you say "British government" like it's a good thing?
Penguin, your analogy was as insightfull as ever but OBO has the point won I think.
An anglo saxon trading block would have been a far superior system.
Yes, what we currently have is Scottish Government!

This is like the old joke about the soul who got bored with the order and rectitude of Heaven, and took a tour of Hell. He was so impressed by the jollity that he applied for and received permission to transfer there permanently. On arrival he was amazed to find himself in direst misery. When he complained, he was told, "Previously you were a tourist - now you live here."
