Man, that guy is stone cold

Just listen to the pilot ...

Obbie, I agree with what you say. I had 4000 hours on this a/c type and that landing was some achievement. I would ask people to remember that there were two pilots up there though. Both omitted to push the "ditching" button causing her to take in water in the rear bulkhead. Still they did a great job. Lot of heroes and heroines that day.

I don't know who the air traffic controller is.....but maybe it's a situation, they have had before.

When you are facing a possible disaster, trying to talk potential death out of the air, I think needs a certain amount of detachment.

Objective...Subjective...some of what the controllers decisions or suggestions... could possibly result in death...

I need to drink three large brandy's...or a nice whiskey before I get on a plane.

Cold and emotional detachment is needed when confronted with potential mass loss, I commend his cold calm.....much preferred by nervous flyers, apparently gets the job done.

Maybe the first time it happened to him, he was screaming like a kings road girl....I prefer the latter...

@Oldrightie

Shouln't there have been a 'Mayday'?

Oldrightie said...

Mayday, indeed yes but I suspect it's lack of use was part of the American R/t discipline.

Unbelievable!

Don't pick on the Americas, they are all black now and you know where that kind of chastising leads to oldrightie!!

Aviate, then navigate, then communicate.

A Mayday call was in order, but there were evidently other priorities.

Much calmer than all these wankstains who are now lining up to sue for PTSD!

No room for laba luvvies there, was there?

I don't know the pilot, but admire the way he/they all handled the problem, didn't get overtaken by emotion. Excellant stuff guys!

As I've heard before, Asperger's / Autism can be very useful.

The reaction you want is - hey, the engines have packed up, hmmm how do we land? this is going to be interesting...

I can't imagine Bliar / Gorgon / Polly / Blears / Jacqui / Mandy / Prescott or any other zanulabies doing anything remotely useful can you? You'd just be kissing your arse goodbye, waiting to die

As a software engineer I've long wondered how far toward Asperger's I am! I love problem solving, and am not worried about who comes up with the solution, just that a good solution is arrived at - about as opposite to ego driven cunt politicians as you can get. Gorgon et al force a decision according to their egos / doctrine - never mind that it won't fucking work. Their ego is more important than reality (AFAICS) - Cunts.

Having said that, I think ego is useful in pushing for the 'best' solution, I suspect; in wanting to do an objectively good job.

I think that these views are why I loath politicians in general, and despise the zanulabias in particular.

Also WTF is the point of the limpdems? It appears to be about ego and making a living (rather than achieving ANYTHING!)

I strongly suspect that asperger type personalities are more than normally represented in blog comments...people who don't see why we have such a problem getting things done as a country - and despair of the twunts in charge.

Obo, thanks for that. If you've got to crash, that is the right fellow to have at the wheel.

Gendeau, it makes me nuts when people poke fun at those on that end of the autism spectrum. Consider the sort of close problem-solving abilities just needed to design a machine -- even a vacuum cleaner or foodmixer, FFS. All those jibes about having your CDs in alphabetical order: I suppose the jibers would prefer it, when they go to the library to find a book, that there was no Dewey system and they had to inspect each shelf in turn.

Sorry Dennis,

I'm not actually very tidy myself - I just feel a bit guilty about living in untidyness!

Having said that, every couple of years I do sort my CDs into order. It took me days to do the same for my books, but that was more because I got annoyed at buying second copies of books!

Though I did say that I thought that I had tendancies in that direction, rather than a diagnosis...

I still feel that lovely, lovely, touchy, feely people should learn to value other personality types more.

Be more forgiving of people saying, "Why is there such a wave of publicity about Jade dying? She's an obnoxious, stupid, ugly, waste of space - stop pretending she's a fucking saint!", some of us are less than inclined to put up with the media frenzy surrounding an undoubted PERSONAL and FAMILY disaster - NOT MY PROBLEM.

I have MUCH more sympathy for the (nearly) nameless soldiers dying in the Middle East, trying to give a better life to people who don't appear to give a shit.

I also think that Gorgon's ego is far, far less important than my country - he needs to go. I thoroughly DESPISE the laba MPs supporting him so that they have their snouts in the trough for as long as possible - CUNTS, the lot of you.

Kudos, think thats the first time for a modern jet airliner to ditch and stay whole, top marks!

I would imagine the captain would have been a bit too busy to be more than tersely efficient with comms.

The reason the ditching button wasn't pressed was that there was no time to complete the checklist.

No, it's not. In fact, a JAL crew ditched off San Francisco and they were able to use the aircraft again.

OK, the Yanks may well have an ex-military bloke with bollocks the size of space-hoppers who can still maintain a Jack Palance type husky whisper when staring death in the face to look up to. However they can NEVER compete with us Brits, not whilst we have Jade Goody demonstrating what it means to be British these days.

@ Fed_Up

Brilliant.....she is the peoples princess....Britain must be proud of it's achievements...
