"Which one is it?"

4 Newspapers all telling the same horror story, and Auntie reporting a helicopter ditching with all on board rescued...

Got to be the Beeb.

There won't be enough RAF rescue crews around to winch us onboard when Neu Liarbor have sunk the country.

W/V pessed - as in pessed off...

Let us hope that the writing is on the wall for the BBC.

What's it worth? About £5 billion?

I know that's only a fiver down the back of the couch for Gordon Brown, but if he gets really desperate, he may be forced to sell it off to keep his bunker supplied with caviar and eye ointment for a few more days.

The privatisation of the BBC cannot come soon enough.

I really fucking hate those commie BBC cunts!!!

I just looked at the BBC site and they are still not giving this much attention despite it being near the end of the day. I had to drill down to the Stephanomics blog where their economics editor wrote about it adn even the heaqding was a fairly bland one - "The cost of taking over the banks".

The problem with the BBC is that they are a state institution and so their instinct is to view things from a statist perspective. The journalists working on it seem to collectively think that real world market economics is an irrelevance: if the BBC can plan its way thru life and be the font of all that is good quality media (which is how they sem to view themselves) then the rest of the world can be dealt with in much the same world.

If its not privatised I so hope the BBC is at least treated to a healthy dose of market liberalisation after the next election with its funding pulled back and its performance subject to market based indicators. Not entirely satisfactory from a purist free market perspective but we live in an imperfect world and I honestly don't think a Tory govt would have the courage (or inclination ?) to go the whole hog and extirpate the BBC from the public sector in its entirety.

Was the BRIT awards ceremony really a horror story? It made me fucking sick, but I didn't once find myself cowering behind my couch....That said, Duffy looked pretty horrifying - She's a weird shaped welsh bird who can warble a bit, so fucking what...
