Oh for the sake of fucking fuck... again, again!

Here we fucking go ... again:

Motorists driving on residential roads and near schools will be forced to obey a strict 20mph limit, under proposals to be unveiled next week.

Limits on roads which are known to be accident black spots could also be reduced.

Ministers – who are keen to improve road safety but not to alienate motorists – will also indicate that new speed cameras should only be placed in areas where crashes occur frequently.

Too fucking late, you bunch of cock-gobbling fucktards. We are already alienated to fucking 2003UB313.

Stop fucking making motorists lives a fucking misery you utter fucking cunts.

Politicians of all hues just don't understand - I have had the Conservative PPC here and had a nice chat with him. We have a local problem of 'joyriders' (kids who nick cars and drive them at immense speeds around the place until they crash into someone or someones house). He was asking local opinion about a campaign he wanted to start to get speed cameras, a 20mph limit and speed bumps put down on the local roads including the one my house is on.

He seemed taken aback and surprised when I, and quite a few of my neighbours, said no thanks to these suggestions - and in turn suggested that arresting and charging the criminals who nick the cars would be a better solution. He seemed to think that this just isn't possible and has gone ahead with his campaign to enspeedbump (?) my road. Ho hum.

The disease is spreading: http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/content/news/story.aspx?brand=ENOnline&category=News&tBrand=ENOnline&tCategory=news&itemid=NOED14%20Apr%202009%2013%3A51%3A16%3A453

“When speeds are 20mph or lower, the risk and severity of accidents can be reduced, which is in everybody's interest.”

How about 10 mph? Even better, why not have a 4 mph limit, and require every vehicle to have a man walking in front carrying a red flag??

There is a campaign to have all the roads round here, country roads, converted to 50 mph max. More folk get killed on these roads than A roads or motorways. This is probably because country roads meander and twist and turn like the cattle tracks they once were. Of course they aren't safe, in the wet or ice at 50mph let alone 60. We have a 20 mph by the local village college, but it only exists officially when the amber lights are flashing, in the morning and when the kids leave. That is sensible. A blanket 20mph which will exist outside of term time is just to piss us all off.

Of course pissing motorists off with £400 plus road tax and sky high petrol duty is part of a concerted plan. Too many people are now fixated on instruments rather than watching the roads. These schemes will lead to more crashes IMO.

There is a traffic management system on the M42. I know I am not the only person who spends more time checking the ever changing speed limits on each gantry and then checking my speed. I hardly have time to check the roads and other cars.

There are definitely some sensible speed limits around but 20mph is getting a bit ridiculous.

I think that we could reduce accidents around schools if there was some proper discipline introduced whereby adults and teachers could actually shout at/discipline the little buggers when they ignore traffic and run out anyway, without fear of reprisal.

I honestly believe my car is invisible. It wouldn't matter whether I was doing 20 or 30, they still just run out anyway. They know their rights - if I hit them, I get the full blame.

Look at that advert where the motorist has the dead kid following him around. The driver is blamed and haunted for the rest of his life. Has anyone stopped to ask why the kid was on the road in the first place?

Bring back the Tufty Club and some proper discipline. That may be a better use of funds.

@Bearwitch

I have narrowly missed running a few brats over. One came off the pavement on a bike, at night, no lights. Only cat-like reflexes on my part saved the little bastard. I had another who shot in front of me at a junction, another pavement cyclist who obviously didn't understand the rules of the road or pavement. I saw him out of the corner of my eye and did an emergency stop. He was lucky. Other motorists shook their heads in disbelief at what this little twat did. If I had hit either of them it certainly would not have automatically been my fault.

@anonymous, 15:10...

My figures are somewhat out of date as they apply to 2006, but for that year, according to the Department for Transport while 13% of accidents in 30mph areas resulted in serious injury or death, in 20mph zones it was 17%.

Thus, it would seem that although it is estimated that "risk and severity of accidents can be reduced" by lowering the limit to 20, in reality it is increased.

My apologies, Chalcedon, I perhaps used 'rights' incorrectly on my post. I stand corrected that it is not a 'right'.

However, whilst I agree it wouldn't be automatically your fault, I don't think that I want to test the theory (tempting as it is sometimes)

The brainwashing is there to say that it is all the driver's fault. Thus the driver has to jump through hoops to prove otherwise. I know of a guy who hit someone who was crossing a motorway. He was slapped with thousands of pounds fine from the emergency services as they had to cordon off a bit of the motorway. He was then sued by the parents. Now, I always thought it was illegal to cross a motorway so how did that one work?

At the end of the day they are making driving more treacherous and miserable. All part of the big plan to get us out of our cars and into public transport perhaps?

Clownster, you know where we stand on this cunt of an issue. The driver simply must be punished for all the nasty things they do to little animals and children.

Fuck the speed humps that fuck up ambulances though.

And let's all ignore the massive amounts of evidence that shows the more safety yo force (traffic lights, calming, helmets etc) the more accidents you get because it provides a false sense of safety.

Because the nasty driver causes a grand total of 20% of all CO2, so must be repeatedly fucked in the tail pipe.

They haven't gone far enough!

I reckon they should have the figure into minuses.

If we can get it down to Minus 50, then we can all zoom around backwards. : )

No lets not you imbecile - road deaths are now at their lowest since 1926 when there were a lot less cars on the road.

Pogo - and what were your figures for the numbers of accidents in 20 and 30 mile zones (you must have them since they are necessary to work out the %s) - all the evidence from Holland where such zones have been prevalent for a long time show very significant reductions in the levels of accidents and all levels of industries.

Bearwitch - yes if only we could get the children to be like adults - unfortunately it takes time - and before you know it they are driving around in cars complaining about speed limits. As for your its all the drivers fault rubbish - perhaps you might wish to look up the figure for the % of reported road accidents involving vehicles where a driver is prosecuted before repeating such inaccurate claims.

And remember that Mrs Thatcher always saw swearing as a sign that her opponents were losing the argument.

@tbngu: fuck off. :o)

Actually, it's just an expression of impotent frustration because we know that even when Labour get their arse kicked from here to 2020 come election day, nothing will change because Call Me Dave is just as fascist as the Gorgon.

@Bearwitch again

I don't know but it is illegal to walk across a motorway carriageway as just a pedestrian. Except I expect if you break down in the outside lane.

Never heard to the emergency services charging a motorist for their services. The whole story sounds very strange.

20mph outside schools during school operating hours is not a bad idea IMHO. Clear and present danger from speeding.

Speed humps should be dug up. I'd do that for jobseekers money pro rata as my bit to help Ambulance drivers and Firemen.
