"Snooping in my daughter's bedroom" shocker

I've been deeply worried about my daughter for a while now. She's become surly, uncooperative and unpleasant. While she was out today, I went into her room and I was shocked at what I found. I'm not sure how to cope with it. I don't know whether to go to the police or try and get counselling for her. I feel like such a failure as a parent, it goes against every bit of the upbringing I've tried to give her.

She's reading Kerrang.

Dude....I'm so sorry.

You'll want to nip that in the bud, Obo. Kerrang is what's known as a 'gateway' magazine. Before you know it she'll be listening to Dashboard Confessional and Paramore, and then there's no hope.

Remove the offending item. I suggest a treatment of Mojo Magazine, or failing that, CLassic Rock magazine.

It's the only way.

This is one for the guvament to sort out. They've probably got a whole 'department' trained to deal with this sort of thing.

I sympathise - one of my sons went through the same phase. Ten years later he's still going through it.

The young lady obviously has good taste in music :)

Get a priest in ASAP. Has her head started turning through 180° yet?

Crikey! Is Kerrang still going, that was an offshoot of Sounds (my music rag of choice thirty years ago).

As I said to my sons (who forced me to listen to Rammstein) "This music is shit. But I'm your Dad, so what do you care? My Dad hated what I listened to, his Dad hated what he listened to, so all is well with the world. Now lads, how about a bit of Clash or Pistols, at least they could write a catchy tune ..."

I read Kerrang back in the day. It seems a bit lightweight now. Or maybe I'm getting old.

I once agreed to sing Rammstein's 'Du Hast' in German, which is odd because 1) I can't sing 2) I don't speak German and 3) I didn't know the song.
Eventually I performed it but found that some random goosestepping helped me to bluff my way trhrough it.

As someone who had dealings years ago with the Anti-nowhere League I want to ask how old is your daughter? Still in touch with the aging bass guitarist and he loves taking music loving gals out to dinner. As for Kerrang - excellent reading.

Obnoxio The Clown said...

My daughter is old enough for me to worry about ageing musicians wanting to spend time with her.

Mr Gadd.

Mmmm the young ones can also be a big worry Obo. Do you reckon she knows about your snooping? Keep it up and you will eventually be in for a huge shock!

Rather Kerrang than the Koran eh?

Maybe she is just keeping it for a friend.

What the fuck has this got to do with politics???

I'm a chaperone at the Whitby Goth Weekend on 25th April. As Whitby is the Goth capital of England and this is one of their major festivals, my normal outfit of sensible lace-up shoes and a beige mac is going to have the perverse effect of making me stand out.

Can the panel suggest suitable wear, other than a cloak of invisibility?

Mr Killer, it has everything to do with politics, as it expresses the rights of individuals to dissent from the values our present Government has promoted and subsidized with Your Money. Please see the wiki on the murder of Sophie Lancaster

"Detective Supt. Mick Gradwell of Lancashire Police said it was one of the most violent murders he had come across in his lengthy career: "I do not think Herbert and Harris have recognised how violent the attack was. They have just done it without thinking, but they seemed to have enjoyed it, and carried on remorselessly kicking at two very defenceless people who were unable to protect themselves because of the level of violence inflicted upon them... I am very critical of some of the parents involved. I really don't think they have taken completely seriously how repulsive this incident was..." He said that when Harris was initially interviewed about the assaults he was "laughing and joking" with his mother."See also this summary by Chris Campion

Woman on a Raft: Can the panel suggest suitable wear, other than a cloak of invisibility?Take Henry Ford's advice: any colour, so long as it's black. ;)

As for Obnoxetta's flirtation with cookie monster music. It's just a phase Obo'. Talk to her about the risks inherent in buying and using metal if you must, but give her the space to make (and learn from) her own mistakes.

Also, headphones.

WOAR, definitely go with the lace-ups and beige mac.

Goths aren't aggressive, they'll probably think it's cool, and all the little girl Goths will say things like 'You're so much nicer than my Mum'.

Theres only one solution, stop all her money and make her go cold turkey.

Worked for mine she moved past the Kerrang phase, but now she's found boys.

Frying pan, fire: Your choice.

You're worried about Kerrang?

When you find a box full of the Watchtower, a pair of sensible shoes and a smart but dull suit, that's the time to worry.

Or worse, a Labour party manifesto with a highlighter pen and a red rosette.

But that's rare these days. Few kids go that far with self-harming.

As long as she shows signs of being deranged, she's a normal teenager.

By the way, what are you doing snooping around a young girl's bedroom? Perv.

Kerrang?

Pah!

You could have found a copy of Windows Vista, which would have been so, so much more wrong...

They grow out of it (mine did) so don't fret too much.

And just think, it could be worse. She could be reading the latest Peter and Katie story in OK! Now that really would be worrying.
