Download a free firewall

I used to use ZoneAlarm and I thought it was pretty good. Today, they're having a free download day, so fill your boots.

Quickly.

I've used the free version for a couple of years - seems to work O.K. Firefox checks web links for forgeries & attack sites, and has done so on a number of occasions lately.

If I ever get an email from them, I owe you one, Obo!

I've been using it for years and while the freebie works well, it's not very customisable!

Oh, and I've given up on Linux. Lovely system, but too steep a learning curve. If you use a virtual (Windows) machine inside of it, you still need anti-virus protection!

I've no idea what a firewall is. Is it something to do with China? I note I've slipped off your list of top ten window lickers so I'm now trying to scramble back on.

It's from the days when computers were dumb and men were smart.

(well, actually, MVS, but Linux gives you p0rn)

Licence key received. Now where is that fucking Winblows machine?

Handy, especially as it's a three machine licence and the in-laws are asking if they need better protection. I've used the full up pay version of Zone Alarm in the past and was pretty happy, but having moved to Macs I mostly use OS X now. Still, I have to do a few things in Windows now and again and while I was happy with the free ZA firewall this will be better. Thanks for posting it.

why don't those cock sniffers at Microsoft make an OS that doesn't need this kind of thing?

About 9 months ago, started to get regular BSOD's on XP. Changed memory, disk connectors, re-installed XP - nothing.

A bit of Googling showed that Zonealarm could be the cause. Didn't believe it myself, but uninstalled and - yup - no more BSOD.

Any commercial software that can cause apparent hardware probs and bring down the entire system almost daily can fuck right off.

According to tests conducted by this website the best firewall is (free) Comodo while Free ZoneAlarm (not the paid-for version) is useless.
