"Rich nations tell us they are going to Copenhagen to seal a deal, but we say not an unfair deal. We will never give way," said Abdalmahmood Abdalhaleem Mohamed, Sudan's ambassador to the UN. Bangladesh's senior delegate was equally robust, describing the $10bn so far offered by the west as "peanuts".
This is all a crazy money grab by "poor" nations exploiting the ludicrous guilt of wealthier nations. And -- for reasons I cannot fathom -- we aren't just telling them to "fuck off".
One day, when historians piece together the collapse of Western civilisation, they will stand agog at the stupidity of one-world socialism.

Yes. They will.
Though I retain hope that a great leader will emerge to prevent the catastrophe.
@Steve Tierney
What do you think Obnoxio is for?
Rich nations? Well that excludes the debt ridden US & UK. If the Indians, Chinese, and some Arabs - the new world rich, want to help out Bangladesh, Africa, that's okay by me.
I suspect by the time the socialists rule the human world nobody will be able to read or write. The human race will be run and a life form without "fucking stupid" coded in its DNA will rule the actual real world. We really dont deserve to evolve any further we have reached the pinnacle of stupidity.
@ Mitch: Agree, stupidity pinnacle reached when the 'regime' sexed up the 45 minutes-ready-to-launch-thunderbirds (WMDs)!!!
Wasn't George Bush reading upside-down at a particular momentous moment in history? Genius!!! :-)
Hmm. Not sure about the "one-world socialism" bit but it would be interesting to see what future historians will say about our era.
Remember it wasn't that long ago we were shitting ourselves about nuclear war (watched Wargames last night. What a hoot!) and I do distinctly recall being told in school in the late 70's that the Earth was on course for a new ice age.
Another thing: it's somewhat ironic that the Greens should be biggin' up the science, sorry the SCIENCE, when historically they've always taken a hostile view of science as a human endeavour, y'know "tampering with nature" "Man's arrogance" etc.

@ Anonymous: I saw that Newsnight episode on Friday night. Instead of showing humility and contrition, Professor Watson, from shamed institute of learning, University of East Anglia, talked down Marc Marano in such an arrogant fashion that I don't see him redeeming the image of science or scientists.
"Houses live and die: there is a time for building
And a time for living and for generation
And a time for the wind to break the loosened pane
And to shake the wainscot where the field-mouse trots
And to shake the tattered arras woven with a silent motto.
TS Eliot, Four Quartets.
'Twas ever thus, think Ancient Greece, The Roman Empire, The British Empire.
Plus ca change, toujours la meme chose.
"Moi pretentious?"
HT: Miss Piggy.
Good piece, I agree entirely
Well fair play to them, it's not like they spent twenty years begging for extra climate-change Danegeld (they got it for allowing their people to starve, failing to deal with disease, starting civil wars and so on).
But a year or two ago the third world despots woke up to the fact that the first world despots were crying out to give them even moremoney, so now they ask for it. In their position I'd do no differently.
You don't seriously think any ordinary Bangladeshis or Sudanese are going to see a penny of it, do you?
It will be the same old story: hand over the money, the receiver to decamp to Europe, preferrably Switzerland if they can get in. The fun part is, they buy stuff from us using the money we gave them and some people will honestly think this is economic activity.
The poor sods in the deltas and deserts still die.
P.S. your comment on Solitaire Townsend's blog was interesting. The Daily Politics has also been poking round their website. Futerra produced a separate document which is genuinely useful when it comes to evaluating claims of eco-superiority.
It's a free for all with our money

Many of these "Third World" countries express a very healthy desire to build up their economies and work their way out of poverty. What they resent is the already rich developed nations telling them they should put a brake on their desires in order to 'save the planet'.
Remember, "going green" is an expensive option and would tend to slow down economic development in those countries which look to China, India, Brazil etc as working examples of how to develop.
There's every chance the Copenhagen summit will agree to give Western money to poorer nations to help with 'climate mitigation' but it'll come with nasty strings attached eg, a promise not to build roads, power stations, dams, factories etc. I do hope they'll resist.
@Weston Bay
An interesting take, but we already know what happens to the work ethic once you start paying welfare.
"One day, when Chinese historians piece together the collapse of Western civilisation,"
AHHHHHHHH the fukin BBC are wittering about sea level rising caused by melting ice caps .....oh dear basic physics not their strong point,Then the killer line....If only we gave them more money for.....I turned it off there.

And perhaps that life form MAY know that a SPACE goes between punctuation and the following character?
These greasy little wogs should not be given a penny.
They seem to have enough money to cut clits off, why don't they save on that a bit?
They can fuck off to their retarded prophet and ask the bearded paedo for some dough.
Thank you Weston Bay, I now know what "Copenhagen" is all about. It's all about preventing the undeveloped nations developing, because if they did, the developed nations would lose their market for manufactured goods. So now they are going to be told they can't do it for reasons of "preventing global warming", their leaders are going to be bought off, their people will remain poor, but feel better about it and the world will carry on as before.
It's not stupidity: follow the money, for it will always lead you to the truth.
Is it all just desperate bribes (which have done wonders in pakistan) to try to stop africa and half of asia from moving to europe & the us come the rainy season?

What a stupid comment, cutting clits off doesn't cost much!

No. But strange how all these "poor Africans/Mexicans/North Koreans/Chinese/any one og a hundred other countrys, can afford THOUSANDS to pay "people smugglers" to get them into thew West, and in a lot of cases, where they have failed, they can afford it three, four and five or more times.
I wish I was THAT poor.
