A bunch of burqs

I was pretty gobsmacked to hear that UKIP want to ban the burqa. It marks them out as just another unprincipled, jump-on-any-passing bandwagon party. I suppose they are gearing up for the big time, it's time to leave those crazy ideas of having principles behind.

bandwagon? Because they've said something you disagree with? Odd.

Come on, oh lovely one - this kind of thing is pretty indefensible, isn't it?

I'm in agreement with UKIP. The blasted thing should be banned. If you want to wear one, go over to the middle east. Just don't bring it over here.

I'm sorry, sixty, but that doesn't fly. Once they ban the burqa and get away with it unchallenged, what's next?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a hugely illiberal thing to make a woman wear a burqa, but if she wants to wear it, who am I to stop her. I'd be happy to allow nudism and the burqa and everything in between.

Should make it compulsory for ALL Muslims to wear. Even those Islamic men should wear the things, those beards carry diseases for Allah's (SBUH) sake!

But aren't balaclavas illegal to wear in Public places? Same thing init?

Howz about we apply similar standards.....say to motorcyclists, they wear Helmets which obscure your face but are asked to remove them in shops and banks.
I really couldn't give a fuck about their culture and as obo says "nudism and the burqa and everything in between."
Islam only calls for "modesty" in dress and for both sexes.

But just stop making stoopid laws, just step away from the statute book and go have some fun instead of banning ours.

I'm with Obo.. If they're daft enough to wear the things in public, then live-and-let-live. I'd support them being not allowed in places such as banks, building societies and other similar places where withdrawals are sometimes made by "unconventional means", ditto when driving for basic field-of-view, safety reasons and possibly in schools. Other than that, what harm are they doing?

It's not illegal to wear a mask, balaclava or full-face crash helmet in public, so why single out the burqa (or is it the niqab, I can never remember)?

I've often thought that it would be good to be a Touareg and be able to go out with my face covered without anyone batting an eyelid. Beats sunglasses in preventing recognition.

BTW, Obo, don't you mean the "bannedwagon"?

Well said Obo and Pogo.

The British just don't understand liberty.

Yeah right, bring on the honour killings, stonings, and Sharia law. It's just so liberfuckingtarian!

Whereas telling someone what they're allowed to wear and not allowed to wear is much more libertarian, isn't it?

Cunt.

I agree with Obo. Using coercion (the law) to police fashion is insane, bizzare, authoritarian and camper than Julian Clary.
