Illuminati-alikes

I'm very sceptical about conspiracy theories - mostly I believe in unfortunate confluences of events and general deficiencies in attitude rather than shadowy überlords planning to take over the world. For one thing, there are so bloody many of them: freemasons, Bildebergers, Illuminati, Knights Templar, Rosicrucians, etc., etc.

The second thing is that I know a couple of masons and they are all painfully decent, horrifyingly nice people. Even those that seem to be fairly big cheeses. I don't knowingly know any members of other conspiracy-alikes, so I can't really comment on the rest of them.

One shadowy conspiracy group that is frequently mentioned in the UK is "Common Purpose". I looked at their website and didn't really see any indication of their Marxist, paedophile aims in the FAQ's. What seems to get people wound up is that Common Purpose meetings operate under "Chatham House rules", much like any organisation that might want to have "free and frank" discussions without dumping people in the shit.

It seems to me that the people who rail on about these "shadowy" groups seem to really hate the idea that people might want to have off-the-record meetings. It also seems to me that encountering one person from these groups who is a cunt tars every other member of these groups with the same brush, rather than accepting that you might have some utter shits in any group and some other very nice people in the same group.

But one thing that seems very common is that people who attack these groups come across as froot-loops and nutter-whackjobs of the very highest order. Every video I've seen so far attacking Common Purpose seems to be presented by someone who wants to be seen as the next David Icke.

This is all a long-winded way around of asking a question: does anyone know of a rational reason to object to Common Purpose that doesn't require me to believe that every member of CP is a lizard-man paedophile rapist of nuns?

so what is the purpose of Common Purpose?

Dunno nothing about CP, but I know quite a few Masons myself and as you say, they are frightfully nice people. The problem is, Freemasonry is such a densely and opaquely-layered organization that it is perfectly possible to have nice people in the lower degrees, yet power-mad evil despots by the time you get up to 33rd degree Scottish Rite standard. It seems to be a stacked control mechanism with the people in the lower levels totally unaware of what goes up higher up.

Ting. The sound of a nail being hit on the head.

Whoosh. Ths sound of energy being directed somewhere useful.

I can't get too worked up about the Masons, though if you hang around the police blogs you'll see that it's a constant theme for some. However, it's hard to see how they are anything other than a mutual society out to benefit themselves if they can.

Common Purpose want to change society according to their own beliefs. Quite a different kettle of fish...

Never mind the evidence, it's just so much more FUN to to believe that every member of CP is a lizard-man paedophile rapist of nuns?

How tedious would it be if they were just (relatively) sane sensible folk with a penchant for (as you mentioned) off the record meetings? That's never going to sell papers or tinfoil hats, now, is it?

I've spoken to Common Purpose groups in Bradford on several occasions - great chance to tell self-important careerist numpties a few home truths I find! My wife is also a Common Purpose "graduate" (the green scaled skin is a bit of a give away I find).

The philosophy stinks - all new labour middle way lets all work together tosh. But my wife took the view that there was some interesting trips and useful business contacts (some of which actually turned into business).

Obo,

Agree with you fully on conspiracy theories - have you seen the live-action movies for Deathnote? The character L shows how it would be impossible to maintain a conspiracy of any size when you have more than one person involved.

Still...have a look at amazons preview read of the book Beyond Authority by Julie Middleton, a prominent leader in CP; communitarian rubbish and quite alarming fascism.

I lost any ability to take the Masons seriously when I was invited to join them. I wished I'd remembered that line of Groucho Marx's about not wanting to join a club that would have him as a member, but I just chuckled and said it probably wasn't for me.

Cheers Obo!

Nice to see the usual spouting from at least one Anonymous lunatic in the comments. All those evil 33rd Degree Scottish Rite etc..... YAWN!!

That reminds me, I must head over to the Icke forums for a bit of light amusement.

Common Purpose began life with John Prescott in the DPM office. Nuff said.

As for other conspiracies, I reckon it is all plots within plots, contingency planning and of course, the odd megalomaniac.

And of course, when people have only half of the story, like Hollywood (have a lot to answer for!), make it up.

Doesn't discard them though. People are convicted every other week for conspiracy to rob, import or kill. Unless you happen to be a mason of course ;p

So why it wouldn't happen on a global political scale is a possibility at least.

The 'game' is definitely fixed though, that is one thing for sure.

@Angry Exile. You might be the exception, but the golden rule of freemasonry is that no one is asked to join. "To be one, ask one".

Anyway.

Common Purpose are not lizards. But they are cunts. Of the highest degree. The common purpose they share is simply more of the same social democracy where the Balls and Milibands of the world rise to the top. It's neu Marxism where the elites thrive as long as they stay on message. Cunts to a person.

It's the expenditure of taxpayers' money on CP activities that I find objectionable. Whatever is supported by the public purse, should be out in the open, with only national security measures excepted.

Do some research into the New World Order that they are trying to force down everybody's throats.

It's more the fact of it's Fabian links that got people all excited initially.

Is most of it conspiracy...Yep....

Will any of it be true?.....Well New Labour were involved so anythings possible...
