On why this country is utterly fucked

This raised my eyebrows:

Ipsos-MORI’s July political poll will make uncomfortable reading for the coalition as the summer break looms. It has the Tories on 40 percent, Labour on 38 percent and the Lib Dems on 14 percent.

Now look, I know I rail against these coalition cunts. But I'm a anarchist, and even any real minarchist libertarian would be railing against what they're doing compared to what they're saying.

But the thing is, most of the country isn't libertarian or anarchist. Most of the country is disinterested in politics or broadly OK with social democracy. And everything the coalition is doing is pretty socially democratic.

And in social democratic terms, I don't think the coalition has put a foot wrong. It's said all the right things. The economy looks pretty good considering, probably too rosy, in my opinion, but clearly I'm in a minority. Cameron looks and behaves in a suitably Prime Ministerial manner and people seem to be remarkably comfortable with the coalition.

Labour is in disarray, with a lacklustre rostrum of cowards, nonentities, frauds, charlatans, bullies and hypocrites running for the leadership. They don't even have a fucking leader, and based on the choice facing them, they're probably better off without one.

So how the fucking fuck can they be this close to the Tories in the polls? How the fucking fuck can people have already forgotten 13 years of increasing state intrusion in our lives or 13 years of glorious economic mismanagement?

Could it possibly be that it's because people are that fucking stupid that they want more of that shit?

No they live in Scotland or Wales.
Or they rely on benifits.
Or they have a non job to lose.

The shear effectiveness of making support for them seem good and support for the Tories evil. It became short hand for every low grade comic and BBC staffer for two decades.

Great post BTW.

Very insightful.

Perfectly simple, because the Tories have actually not done anything much different from Labour.

Ok, yes they've cut the budget a little bit more (with slightly more honesty) - but when it comes to other policies such as; climate change, the EU etc not only is it identical they are actually going further.

There truly isn't any difference between the main parties.

Most people are just tribal and vote for who their parents voted for. That won't change. My Grandad would no more vote away from Labour than fly to the moon, even though he hates everything about this country and what has happened to it.

Anonymong is right as well, Jocks , Welshers and benefits thieves plus the monumental pool of people employed by the State gives you a shitload of Labour voters that would never switch, 'cos they couldn't give a fuck about the country as long as they're ok.

They never actually felt the pain though did they.

Yes unemployment rose, but that was blamed on the banks. But as yet people have not been royally fucked for their wanton stupidity of spending a decade spending far more than they earned, while government spend far more than they earned.

Even now with low interest rates people are spared the pain of facing their personal debt.

The reason Labour lost is because a slight majority realised that the path Gordon was taking us down was going to be very very painful eventually when reality caught up. But it was future pain that was to be avoided, not current pain. That 38% of people don’t think further ahead than the next ten minutes, for them it irrelevant.

The bastard thing for the Tories is that they ARE going to have to get interest rates up, and when they do the personal pain will start to follow and these inflated property prices can’t hold up. And it will be they, not Gordon that gets the blame, unless they are very good at spinning.

Damn Straight the boiling frog, abstract rule from a different tyrant and "climate change" are wheres it's at.

Forget identical policies on War, Poverty, Violence, anti-Education, destrucive healthcare, mass theft, destruction of innovation etc etc etc... those bastards haven't done anything about the equally useless EU and "climate change" madness.

Seriously? Get your priorities straight.

Yes anon, they really should have achieved world peace and brought back VHS all within ten minutes of being handed the keys to downing street.

I wonder if your Boss holds you to such fucking mentally impossible standards.

What happens with the first bit of further EU integration that comes along? The Tories drop their trousers and grab their ankles.

"Tidying up", my festering cock. That's just what Labour said about the Lisbon treaty.

Honestly Kingbingo, they're not doing anything different to what Labour did.

How many more times are we going to have this conversation before you drop this farcical "don't frighten the horses" bollocks?

I'm with Obo on this one Kingbingo.

No-one expects everything to be instantly fixed, but the coalition have repeatedly gone back on promises. They've already showed their hand as being only marginally better, and not very much different, than Labour were.

It's hugely disappointing.

Appreciated, and I’m saying very similar things to those I know on the inside. Although every time I suggest they be radical and just get the machete out and go fucking nuts they agree that it would be lovely, but they are obsessed with this idea that Britain is essentially a Socialist country and any Tory government is living on borrowed time. They have been so traumatised by getting a total shoeing at every election for a decade that they have developed this timid outlook.

I’m rather hoping that at the moment they are laying the framework for bigger and better things.

If you’re old enough to recall, or nerdy enough to read up on the subject that is exactly the process that Maggie went through. In her first term she was very cautious, only after she realised that if she could just streamroll over tens of thousands of heavily armed argies she might as well take on the commies at home.

I am both.

However, much to the detriment of your continued arguments to the contrary, it seems that nobody in the Conservative leadership is either old enough or nerdy enough to do so.

What happens if we don't get an invasion of the Falklands? Things just fucking carry on down the road set up by New Labour while you harp on about frightening the horses?

@Obo: What happens if we don't get an invasion of the Falklands?

I guess that they are hoping that us invading Iran will be sufficient?

@Timdog: Most people are just tribal and vote for who their parents voted for.

Very true. But why does no blogger (let alone the MSM) ever bother to ask why? There's scope for a great post there, Obo, if you're up on your sociobiology...

I vote Tory, did I tell anyone that?!

Timdog said...

I hear the Tory argument @Kingbingo, but the flaw is that they're doing a shit job AND not winning any popularity contests.

Here's a radical concept for them. Fuck the existing Labour voting pool. They're never gonna switch allegiance so forget trying to please them in any way. Bring out the machetes (or bazookas or whatever) and lay waste to all the bullshit. Give the people an EU referendum, make proper cuts all over the place, slash and burn the bloated new laws Labour created, abandon the AGW myth (although I suspect this is too much to hope for) etc. In short, do it differently.

Meanwhile, target all those people who don't vote because all y'all look the same to me. Voter turnout is awful, and there are a lot of people who might vote for a genuine alternative to what is happening now.

If the coalition continues in this vein, the Tories will either lose or scrape the next election, and the Lib Dems will continue to be irrelevant. So why not try something else?

I think a Labour Government is entirely possible within the next three years, what is even more terrifying is that if Brown had not been Labour Leader I think it was entirely possible that Labour would have narrowly won the last election.

Or to put it another way they haven't actually got anything to lose by getting out the machete and going nuts, as you put it.

So what's fucking stopping them?

@Timdog

I agree 100%
