Look you fucking cunts ...

... it simply isn't that fucking difficult!

Carmen Valino had images deleted from her camera by police and was threatened with arrest whilst photographing the scene of a shooting in Hackney, East London. The incident happened on Saturday as Valino photographed the crime scene from outside a police cordon whilst on assignment from the Hackney Gazette. She had identified herself as a journalist and showed her UK Press Card to police.

Jesus H. Fucking CHRIST man! Not just taking photos in a public place, but a fucking accredited journalist.

What the cunting fuck is wrong with the fucking Met???

Here are the ACPO guidelines:

Members of the media have a duty to take photographs and film incidents and we have no legal power or moral responsibility to prevent or restrict what they record. It is a matter for their editors to control what is published or broadcast, not the police. Once images are recorded, we have no power to delete or confiscate them without a court order, even if we think they contain damaging or useful evidence.

That is pretty fucking clear to me.

The only possible reason why police don't pay any heed to this is because they know full fucking well that the top brass don't particularly care about it.

And because there are no real consequences. Sack or jail a few. That's the only thing that'll stop this.

Why wouldn't those 'guidelines' apply to everybody not just 'accredited journalists'? Will the police pass a law against 'people looking at things and then describing them to other people' next.

Also what Julia M says.

While I agree with the post, if some Police guy deleted any images off my camera I'd take the card home, plug it in my PC and undelete them.

Should work with most cameras except Fuji ones.

What Mark and Julia M say.

This "journalist" line is playing into their hands. It then allows people to "move along, nothing to see" when they concede that and "allow" journalists only and the rest of us to spin.

We should not be obliged to give reasons or explanations to the police when we are going about our lawful business. No probable cause (since when is curiosity PC?), no justification.

p.s. "Should work with most cameras except Fuji ones." - Bugger!

Sue them. For restraint of trade. When it starts costing them money they'll stop.

That's just a random collection of undelete software that happens to be on a site with Fuji in the name.

Fuji uses a system of writing zeroes to every bit that makes up an image that is to be deleted. Thus images on a Fuji camera that get deleted cannot be undeleted.

It already is 'costing them money' in a sense. Thay've already been fined for this.

But guess where that money comes from?

@ JohnW - My father has a Fuji FinePix camera, and I've just carried out a test with 2 of his SD cards.

1st card: I had already deleted the entire folder, so the card appeared blank in Windows explorer.

2nd card: I deleted one image (and noted its file name).

I then ran "Recuva" which is an excellent freeware utility. It found 193 files on the first card, and I successfully recovered one to my PC. On the second it showed all the images currently on the card, and the one I deleted. This was also successfully recovered to my PC.

Surely it's time a professional photographer, such as the one mentioned here, posted some of their "Deleted" pictures to show the Police how stupid they are - particularly since these could be evidence in the supposedly suspicious activity they are carrying out.
