Not bashing B&D

But this was put up, and followed by more invective in the comments:

Hate probably comes into it, to an extent, but it is a blend of sentiments all mixed up together. Palin elicits feelings of dread and fear in me. Bemusement. Bewilderment. Despair. Annoyance. Bitterness. But nothing I have not carefully thought over or discussed with the wife.

To which I can only say: All the abuse leaves me none the wiser. Palin is to me, no better than any other politician, but crucially, she is no worse, no dumber, no more fatuous. She is, however, much more open and honest.

It seems to me that much of the outrage is that we don't want to confront the honest truth of what useless meatsacks our politicians are, because let's face it, it doesn't exactly reflect well on us for voting them in, does it?

Nearly all politicians are useless meatsacks, but they're not equally useless.

Palin is a hate figure because of her common sense.A rare trait in any politician.

I suppose if they demonise her enough then that twat obama might just scrape another term.....oh joy more change we can believe in ho fuckin ho.

Palin is not only female, but also a real life proven, sucessful feminist who is married to a pukka macho man, not a neutered wimp.

She lives the American dream for all to see and hers is life-sized, whereas her haters at best get the TV-screen sized version.

Palin is everything those hating guys and gals on the left are not, and she reminds them daily of how brilliant they could be in life -- if only they would be able to jump over their own shadow.

Maybe this is why we elect such useless toerags we can easily look down on to public office, because people like Palin are shaming us all with their example on how to live life well because they show us what is possible if we only make the effort.

Still think she's sexy.

Gender may have something to do with it, but I'm telling you -- this is EXACTLY the way people reacted to Reagan. Overreacted, I should say.

Which isn't any prediction about her aspirations -- or the likelihood that she would succeed should she try. It's just, whatever Ronnie had that made some people fall to the ground foam at the mouth, Sarah's got it too.

I remember the left (and others) gunning for Reagan in pretty much the same way. Some of it (Spitting image) was amusing, but most was inane and unreasonable. They also tend to forget that Reagan won, lowered taxes, forced the collapse of the Soviet Union and was probably a far better president than those who came after him.
Palin might be the same, who knows, but she doesn't fill me with fear, no more than Obama does. I suspect she'll do ok as president of the USA, it would be difficult (though admittedly not impossible) to do much worse than the last few presidents.

She's a woman and she's intelligent.

The establishment hate that.

Ask Thatcher. Ask Widdecombe.

Their preferred female icons are the Abbotts and the Bercows. For fucking blindingly obvious reasons that I needn't waste my keyboard on.

It's accepted that you can say what you like about Widdecombe or Thatcher. You can slander them, swear at them, take the piss out of them rotten, make death threats against them, and no-one among the intelligentsia (HA!) will bat an eyelid. Will Harman or Toynbee ride to their defence?

No. Because they know their place. Bring up the rear, left wing ladies and lick some arse.

I'm not sure I'd go that far. :o)

I see your latest pathetic ruse to entice lesbians into your lair is to pander to the feminist lobby.

You are transparent, Clown.

Fair questions again, Obo, and my response is this:

She is not refreshingly honest. She is not this open heart on sleeve folksy type. She blames everyone she possibly can for why she gets asked hard questions and why she is portrayed a certain way and why she looks bad on telly etc etc.

She never takes responsibility. She never says "yeah, hands up, I don't know the answer to that question..." she's a bullshitter.

Yes, most politicians, including ones I have voted for, are stupid, poor and they are utter cunts. I totally admit that.

Palin annoys the fuck out of me because there is a difference between being limited, incompetent, crafty but ultimately mediocre and controlled, and Sarah Palin...who is so far off the scale, so off the chart in all the wrong areas, that her attaining big political power will likely destabilise the world all so that a bunch of reactionary god bothering cunts can stroll about feeling good about their guns and their $200 of tax rebate a month.

I can't be bothered with the fucking cunt. She annoys me.

And as I said in my piece, I can't speak for others and their emotions and I dislike the Guardian left and their position towards Repblican rightists even more than I dislike Palin. Because they have massive extra piety and arrogance factor.

p.s. is this a good moment for me to tell Raccoon she is a sly devious cunt with a fucking attitude problem? If not, oops, my bad, I said it anyway.

WHy have you deleted my comment, Obo?

JD, I didn't delete your comment, which, for the record, I found much more enlightening than all your previous attempts to explain this.

I can only imagine that blogger is being an arse again ... I'm sure it will reappear in the fullness of time.

Go back to the US Primaries.

When the Left Establishment decided to pretend they were colour-blind in preference to gender-neutral, they turned on Hillary Clinton to an extent that they made the Right, who never liked her, seem quite doting.

When Sarah Palin appeared, the sexist sneers, already well practised over the previous months, came instantly and with true viciousness. Mrs Palin scared the Left shitless.

She still does, and as the patron saint of the Tea Party movement, Mrs P has a growing influence on ordinary Americans, so the bile will continue.

For the moment, Hillary's teeth are drawn, but if Obama is an obvious loser in 2012, I wonder if she will try for the Democratic nomination. The Clintons see the White House as their main home.

Most politicians are useless but whilst I hold no particular candle for Palin (in fact I dislike her quite actvely) I see no reason why stupid cunts on the left like Ed Balls don't attract even more abuse
