I've been watching Obama for a while now, in a disinterested kind of way. And I can't understand the appeal he has, to be honest.
Even in Britain, we have hardened anti-Blair campaigners and right-wing bloggers who can't see that Obama is nothing more that a charming, reasonably good-looking, presentable politician with no real agenda.
He's even got the Blairite empty rhetoric. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him wandering out to his first press conference with a coffee mug in his hand; or have Mrs Obama appear on the front doorstep in her frilly PJs and a nightgown. It's scarily clear that religion is a big factor in his makeup as well, despite his leftie leanings.
It's a bit frightening to think what carnage Blair Mk 2 will be able to wreak on the world, given the enormous resources the US has. So I'm not going to think about it.
