An interesting piece of news. Well, perhaps gossip is a better description. Gordon Brown is apparently mulling raising the personal allowance for income tax to £10,000.
This is the most sensible idea I've heard yet from the Gorgon (notice how it's not badger-brows doing any fucking thinking, he's just the fall-guy for when it fucks up!)
But because it's far too sensible an idea and fucks with the tax credits behemoth, it'll never happen. Watch for more arcane and incomprehensible flummery with the tax credit system that ostensibly does the same thing in a much more complicated way and doesn't achieve the desired result, instead.

That rather than cutting VAT is likely to stimulate some spending. Of course the spending might be on debt rather than in the shops, showrooms and pubs but you never know. I wonder how he'll claw it back? or perhaps he doesn't give a shit anymore.
