Pull any old number out of your arse

Yawn:

Chancellor Alistair Darling is expected to announce some £15bn of spending cuts over the next few years when he delivers his Budget statement.

He will say the money can be found by making Whitehall more efficient.

Yeah, whatever. Pull the other one. The only way you reduce costs is if they walk out the door. And we all know that's not going to happen on Labour's watch.

Meanwhile ...

"Even if the chancellor cared, and he doesn't, and even if the government did implement efficiency savings, which it won't, £15bn would have about as much impact as a toddler slapping a whale."

"Spending cuts" is the new phrase for "not increasing spending by quite as much as we could do if we wanted to". Wierd.

I suppose this taps into the mentality of shoppers who think they can "save" money by buying something in the sales. Unless it is something they really needed anyway, that's actually "spending" money, isn't it?

Indeed.

Unless it's shoes. Or handbags.

That's totally understandable... ;)

He's an optimistic old bastard as these here £15 billion of cuts will be made over 6 years! What he should do is immediately start culling all these bloody Quangos and set himself to save £180 billion in one year. I understand Darling wants a lot more cuts but McBroon wants to keep on spending and by this means borrow a shed load more dosh and fuck the country up ever worse than it is now.

Apparently it wasn't worth looking into 15bn of waste 'til now - fuck it's only taxpayers' money.

Sadly they won't get anywhere near that amount, and it's only the tip of the quango, fake charity iceberg

I was assuming that it's just going to be (yet) another announcement of "Gershon savings" - whicvh must be coming up for about their 5th counting by now.

@Gen d'Eau

Quite.

If it's that easy to save £15 billion through 'efficiency' savings, why the blistering fuck have we been wasting it until now?

Where does that leave 'fiscal prudence?'

Gangraped, buttfucked and comatose since 1997.

Any of you lot remember "Yes Minister". Hacker has an idea to save money through "ministerial efficiency". Never works.
