#Climategate - Should Al Gore lose his Oscar?

I think he should lose the Nobel as well, but a couple of members of "the Academy" want to rescind Al's Oscar:

Roger L. Simon and Lionel Chetwynd, both Academy members, are among a small, meandering pack of known political conservatives still believed to be on the loose in the liberal bastion of movie-making.

In 2007, the Academy sanctified Gore's cinematic message of global warming with its famous statue, enriched his earnings by $100,000 per 85-minute appearance and helped elevate the Tennessean's profile to win the Nobel Peace Prize despite losing the election battle of 2000 to a Texan and living in a large house with lots of energy-driven appliances.

Chetwynd and Simon were prompted to make their hopeless demand this week by the leak two weeks ago of a blizzard of British academic e-mails purporting to show that scientists at the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit systematically falsified data to document the appearance of global warming in recent years.

The university is reportedly investigating the claims, which added dry fuel to the never-ending political debate over whether the Earth really is warming as a result of human activity or if it's just normal natural cycles and the debate is what's heated. The demand to withdraw Gore's award provides yet another opportunity to argue.

Too bloody right. While they're about it, they should take away his fucking Nobel prize and stick his fucking thieving head on a pike, as well.

The cunt.

Climategate is what happens when universities become addicted on federal grants for research, so they invent catastrophes like Y2K or global warming to extort a bigger fix of money. Blame professulas whose posh pensions graze on stumbent loan interest from vacuous degrees in basket weaving commie nutty organizing. Turn grant grubbing blatherers into fuel, especially perverts like mayor crotch who gas for obsama zbin biden. Your islamosympathic gutterswabbing clothing and pierced privates spread disease. If you weren't such baby killing, vermin snuggling perverts you wouldn't be driving up our health costs, then collecting disability for your commie nutty organizing dementia. Your passive aggressive labor unions grab our guns, cars (congestion pricing), balls (SONDA), wallets, and homes but we will grab your throats and dang you from trailer bone tolls. Apply Sarbanes Oxley to non-profits! Repeal the seventeenth amendment before any VAT. All the homeless are drugged out hippies. Second Amendment is the ONLY Homeland Security. Wait until we waste all your stumbent subprimes, so you need to sell your affectation glutton art and work instead of diverting tuition and Y2K scams to soviet freezeniks! Deport for multiple visits to same country. If you controlled your own pension neither your boss nor the government could abuse it. Lynch soviet wealth fund abetting aghadhimmic peakies when oil plummets! Parasites complain about salaries but pig out with benefits. Global warming is a grant grubbing extortion racket. Urban sprawl annoys terrorists. Hazards and pollution stem mostly from mandates. Aqua volte! This land wasn't build by bullocraps.

I think he should lose his fucking head, never mind a desk ornament.

Science will be in recovery mode for decades after this.

Lying bastards.

"The university is reportedly investigating the claims,"

Nah, trying to dream up some way of limiting the damage.

Personally, I think he should lose his bollocks as well!

I see that Climategate is also to be investigated by the IPCC - that'll be such a big fucking help in getting to the truth - I smell bullshit and whitewash!

The sight and sound of backpedaling from the media is a delight to behold.

I'd like to second what everybody else has already said, except for Mr Comment Deleted, he leaves that comment everywhere and it's getting boring.

Hate to rain on everyone's parade here but y'know this could all so easily blow over. Though 'climategate' has injected a healthy dose of scepticism in the minds of the public it hasn't changed the minds of our political elites

The Green agenda is still in the ascendant, dodgy emails or not. What is needed to really change things is a political leadership that is capable, and has the guts, to break with the whole environmentalist narrative. I simply don't see it coming- certainly not from 'dopey' Dave's Tories.

It would also help if a section of the Meeja broke ranks as well but with the Beeb, Sky News and ITN still 'on message' I can't see that happening either.

What gets me is that the MSM parrot on about the "dangers of global warming", without once saying what those dangers are, quite apart from the non-existence of said global warming.

@ bayard - someone made a very good point in a comment elsewhere recently. Ice takes up more space than the water it formed from. So if the ice caps all melt, then sea levels will FALL....

So this favourite tourist spot can stop whining:

Al gore should keep his Oscar but they should change the reason, how about "best supporting actor" in a southpark episode?

I see you've restrained yourself in this post Obo. Not like you in the least.

Everyone's said what I would have said so I won't bother saying it , but if you insist...

bayard said...

@microdave: Err- no. Ice floats because it takes up more water than it is formed from. So the extra volume is in the air (the tip of the iceberg). When it melts, nothing happens, levelwise. The only melting ice that has an effect on sea levels is ice on land, which is water that is prevented from flowing to the sea by virtue of being solid. Damn nearly all of the ice at the North Pole is sea ice which could all melt and not affect the sea level one millimetre. That just leaves glaciers and Antarctica. and not all of Antarctica is covered in ice anyway.

Quite. Gore!

So much obscene smugness in one place its amazing it doesn't reach a critical mass and explode.

Oh sorry, it just has.

@ bayard - It has been a long time since I was in a School Lab, so I won't argue with your explanation. I was quoting another comment. But in either case the dire predictions of sea level rise running in to tens of feet isn't going to happen.

Just proves that the whole business is not "settled", and is never likely to be. Which is a damn good reason for not using it to destroy the economic prosperity of the world.
