I'm slightly confused

There seems to be an awful lot of chatter about Uganda outlawing gays. I read calls for sanctions and all sorts of action and facebook groupage and stuff. But there are plenty of countries where sticking your cock into another man's arse (and sometimes even a woman's arse) will get your head cut off.

So why aren't they calling for sanctions against those countries as well?

Really? I can't remember the last time I saw a call for sanctions against Saudi Arabia.

Wasn't Uganda's Parliament debating this a few weeks ago, and so it became a minor talking point on the internet because the BBC fancied doing a 'have your say' about it? I guess Uganda is just the most well-known of homo-hating countries. Or the easiest target.

Hi Obnoxio,

I guess it goes back to economics and power. Uganda is very poor and they have no power, or great stream of natural resources they tap into (like oil or natural gas--they do have both, but they are not drilled), so they are not feared outside of their own borders. In my opinion, it seems that leftist groups will gang up on poor countries, but stay silent as the grave about countries that are powerful or ideologically similar (i.e. Cuba). As you say, there are no calls for action or sanctions against Saudi Arabia or Iran (where they hang homosexuals publicly). They are also goat herders that were lucky enough to be born on top of caves of oil and still stick to their 7th century mentalities. I do not see many woman's groups or leftist organizations against them since it would be "culturally insensitive." They will attack easy (or as we said in the army "soft") targets, like Uganda. Many leftists here in America scream about our "evil" government (except for Saint Obama of course), but think Castro and Chavez are saints. I do not know what kind of mental stretch that takes, but it must be drug induced since it is a break with reality. Watered down, the simple fact is they lack the courage of their convictions and attack "soft" targets. Personally, I would love to see "feminists" driving in Saudi Arabia, but it is a pipe dream. Have a good day Obnoxio!

'Cos those other countries have oil?

Probably because they can't afford to buy weapons from us.

yeah, I think power has a lot to do with it. We are too dependent on the Middle East for oil to piss them off.

So no-one bothers.

Uganda, even to our liberal tosser establishment, is not a political threat. So it's fair game.

I think we need to end our dependence on countries for oil, but that's another discussion.

Dear people, such pathetic outrage. Buggery of your Mrs is illegal in the UK. Check it out. I expect to be imprisoned for life. Probably by Mandleson who believes the purity of pederasy is sacrosanct.

This 'for those following news outside the UK' has been a talking point for some time and was recently highlighted because there was some American involvement, driving the policy forward.

As sanctions go there is always an offer of a 'threat' of sanctions and nothing ever comes of it. Uganda, after having a torch shone in their eyes are backing down. They scare easy. Plenty of countries in Africa with the same attitude against gays...

As tater tot says and we all know there are obvious reasons why the oil rich get treated with kitten gloves.

That's why World Coalition, Amnesty etc. are there kicking small holes in doors...

But you know all this....we all fucking do...

I'm not particularly expert in the law of buggery, but I don't think buggery is illegal except in two circumstances; (i) where the buggeree is under the age of consent and (ii) where the buggeree does not consent to buggerment. Consensual marital buggary is lawful.

what's wrong with outlawing gays? it used to be a fetish, like fucking grannies or getting pissed on. At least if it was outlawed it would keep it behind closed doors. but no, they are the same as every one else now, and have equal rights and need to get married and adopt kids and such. I'm not saying throw them in prison, but it could be covered under lewd conduct laws etc. At least then we wouldn't need to have our kids learn in school that it is a viable and reasonable choice of lifestyle, which i believe it is not, or at least, should not be.

As a loathesome hate-filled bigot, I'm more concerned that every single Ugandan Fudge-packer now has an unchallengable right of asylum here.

My God, what is a fudge-packer? No, no - don't bother to explain.

I am more annoyed with myself for revisiting the blog without waterproofs, sea weathered jacket, waders and sou'wester hat.
