I agree

Just fuck off, Mr Whiney Moany. Do you have any fucking idea how much it costs to lay cable, you fucktard?

Might as well make the most of a Labour Government while we have it and ask for expensive stuff we fancy but don't want to pay for ourselves.

As several of his comments pointed out, Satellite Broadband is the sensible answer for remote locations like this. There are already a number of satellites providing this service (look outside any shop with a Lottery terminal) and more are being planned for launch in the next year or two. It's not the perfect answer, but for most purposes will be adequate. People need to realise that the dream of living in an idyllic farmhouse in the middle of nowhere can have disadvantages....

I seem to remember that when Yorkshire Cable were digging up every street in the Leeds/Bradford conurbation at the end of the nineties, fibre optic ran about £200 a metre to install. So £57000 sounds pretty cheap (it's not the cable that costs the money, it's paying the navvies to dig the trench, lay the bedding down, run the conduit, thread the fibre, backfill and reinstate the tarmac that costs so much.)
