I've been watching the latest iteration of the Israeli / Palestinian conflict with some considerable dread, not least for the inevitable display of lefty mongosity that comes with these things.

"Disproportionate response" is the most frequent charge levelled against the Israeli government, and it probably is disproportionate. On the other hand, how many rockets does Hamas have to launch before the Israeli response is considered proportionate? Would these same lefties be more forgiving if Israel's response was to simply launch an endless stream of low-grade rockets into Gaza? Would that be acceptable?

But the thing that really grips my shit about the lefty wibbling is the question of intent.

Normally, lefties will justify any old fucking shit on the basis that the intent of the measure was good. Yes, we pissed money away on that cause to no avail, but the idea behind it was good, so it's OK.

What do these cretins think the intent of the rocket launches into Israel are? It's to kill people. If the rockets weren't dangerous, people wouldn't pay them any fucking notice.

But now, suddenly, the intent of the rockets - killing innocent Jewish civilians - is irrelevant, because they rarely do. How the fuck does that work then?

Either intent doesn't matter, in which case lefties need to 'fess up to the results of their economic stupidity or intent does matter and lefties need to accept that Israel's response to the rockets is justifiable self-defence.

You can't have your cake and eat it.

Call it my natural cynicism...

... but for some reason when the Teleprompter Jesus declared that the world was now a safer place since Osama Bin Laden had been shot and conveniently fed to the fishes, I wasn't entirely convinced.

Nor, it seems, was anyone else after every country in the world raised its threat level to "Shit your pants and keep a close eye on brown people".

I can't help but feel like Obamalamadingdong has done exactly the wrong thing here and given the sick, ageing terrorist, who was becoming marginalised all over again, a brand new centre-stage martyrdom.

This kind of summary "justice" just doesn't leave me even remotely reassured. I don't, for one moment, believe that Osama Bin Laden did not deserve to die. He absolutely did, but he was not tried or found guilty. Crime is filled with people who have claimed responsibility for the crimes of others, and Osama never really did get round to being proven guilty for anything he was blamed for or took responsibility for.

The whole story stinks, and I'm not the only one who thinks so.

He was shot on the orders of a supposedly "liberal" president who may just need an amazing turn of events to boost his flagging popularity. The same fucktard who then immediately turned around and lied about how much safer this murder has made the world, while cranking up the security a few notches for the rest of us.

When Obama came to power, I noted how much he reminded me of Tony Blair, smooth and unprincipled and a master of presentation but fuck-all else. It didn't occur to me that he was just as viciously amoral as that murderous cunt Blair ever was.

It never occurred to me that he would actually go as far as "killing" Bin Laden just to bolster his poll ratings.

How to end the Afghan war

OK, here's a idea: we currently spend billions on a (trust me on this) entirely unwinnable war in Afghanistan. We will never win this war, the very best we can hope for is an honourable draw and graceful disengagement, and how fucking likely do you think that's going to be?

So here's the plan, endorsed by those fuck-off important and smart guys at B&D: stop spending the money on war and spend the same amount of money (or probably less) buying the poppy crop. Then bring the drugs home, burn them or turn them into BP-grade drugs and sell them on the world market.

The Afghan people would get a massive boost to their economy, the Taliban would be marginalised, greed would lead to a semblance of order and development.

Ideally, we could decriminalise drugs as well, but even if that's politically unacceptable, there is apparently a huge shortage of raw material for medical morphine, etc.

So where's the problem?

Somebody needs to point out to Gorgon Brownshirt that a) gunboat diplomacy doesn't work (even if you haven't destroyed your gunboat capability); b) Britain isn't in a position to demand anything any more (because Gorgon destroyed our gunboat capability); and c) just because he wants a war to raise his status, we don't. We've already pissed off a sufficient number of Arabs already, and can he please just fucking shut up before he gets us into any more shit.
