I can't see this going wrong ...

... can you?

Ford is planning to open its Sync in-car computing platform to third party app developers

"My Sat-nav doesn't work!"

"Have you tried rebooting the car?"

"Fuck off, you cunt."

But wait, there's more!

"The way we're developing the toolkit, you could sit in the comfort of your home and plan a roadtrip," he says. Using a smartphone or computer, you'd then add points of interest or other plans. "At the click of a button, the cloud would make all that available to you in the car, and it would broadcast it to your social networking groups."

What, you mean like I've been doing with my TomTom for the last five years?

Major facepalmage!

"Students will be encouraged to build cloud-connected apps in almost any computing language they want: Java, C, C++, and so on;"

Cloud-connected apps? So, you go into a tunnel and your car shuts down?

Hey, they are the only American car company that decided not to suckle from the government tit. More power to them.

It's all over my head - thank goodness.

I'll stick with my trusty Garmin which hasn't been updated for a couple of years. I like it that way.

I've managed quite nicely with maps, and the occasional written route plan for 35 years. And as for black boxes and holographic "back seat drivers" - that's when I'll be emigrating, if not before.....

Technology has no place in my 22 year old car.
