Ubuntu Live
Shuttleworth and some IBM droid are out to bend your ear. There will be drinkies, nibbles and demos.
There won't be Clown, sadly. :o(

OpenOffice 3.0 - the only option for masochistic Linux users

I'm glad that OpenOffice decided to dump GNOME's default save-as menu for their own harder-to-use menu. I was getting bored of being able to intuitively save files wherever I wanted.
Just no pleasing some people. Should be using KDE anyway, you big girl's blouse.

Had enough of Fista?
Personally, I don't have this problem ... yet! But everyone I know who uses Fista is moaning like a stuck pig. In the interests of fairness, I thought I'd share this link with anybody who cares, before making the obligatory plug for Kubuntu.
My casual exploration of Kubuntu went like this:
Result?
Screen displays perfectly. Both wireless cards work, PCMCIA consigned to the drawer again. Dead laptop brought back to life, now sits in the lounge as a handy-dandy toy.
Kubuntu: playing Jesus Christ to your Lazarus laptops.
My casual exploration of Kubuntu went like this:
- Found an old laptop that wasn't running under Windoze (built-in wireless shagged, screen not displaying correctly), plugged in spare wireless PCMCIA card.
- Download Kubuntu ISO and burn to CD.
- Boot up, looks a bit rough, wireless not working -- based on previous Linux install experience, this is no surprise.
- Plug in Ethernet cable and connect to router for Kubuntu to do its automatic patching.
- Reboot.
Result?
Screen displays perfectly. Both wireless cards work, PCMCIA consigned to the drawer again. Dead laptop brought back to life, now sits in the lounge as a handy-dandy toy.
