The govt needs to employ an awareness person to walk in front of our troops whilst they are patrolling in war zones, just in case.

Defender, this is not about racism, it's about a very different mind set and culture within the Armed Forces, and trying to dismantle it is both pointless and dangerous, as it would risk weakening the camaraderie that is so vital.

The ECHR seems to think that banter between friendly groups of young men using racial epithets only ever happens in barracks.
I guess those two 13/14 year old black youths on my train carriage last week, cheerfully calling each other ‘niggah’ while they played rap on their mobiles were soldiers? *shrug* They looked too young to me, frankly…
I'm an ex-soldier and as ARRSE testifies to, it's a very special community. Calling someone of Asian origin the name that HRH used (esp given that he suffixed it with the word "friend") is the equivalent of calling me Jock (I'm a Scot).
Lord Bingham said as much in a landmark ruling in the House of Lords, although not in quite those words. Very, very losely translated, his advice was:

Craig is absolutely right. These soldiers are "men" in the truest sense of the word, not delicate little girls.
Perhaps the equalities watchdog should be ensuring that they are being treated better with regards to financial support, housing and medical facilities!

The range of nicknames during my time in the Navy was pretty wide, and equally blunt - from the usual 'Paddy' and 'Mick', through 'Roots' to 'Cornershop'.
The Prince Harry thing is just the usual over-sensitive little flowers trying to control real people.
What I saw on that video, in large part, was a decent young officer trying to minimise the impact of his status in the Royal Family and instead lead his men.
Perhaps if the Righteous wish to control the way the Forces speak with each other, they should actually spend some time in uniform and EARN the right to criticise?

If these twats who are so offended by this heard the way we spoke to each other, and the names used, they'd be foaming at the mouth. Even more than normal.
But guess what? We all got on and would have done anything for our friends and colleagues.
Doh! It's the army, stupid. Barrack room culture is partly what it's all about. You get barrack room lawyers too.
In any male society you get nicknames and abuse. The abuse means you are mates. If you didn't get any abuse then you wouldn't be one of the lads. These sanctimonious pc twats are just that. They need to understand how the real world works. Perhaps a couple of weeks training with the Parchute Regiment might open their eyes.

Its about political correctness, which has its core any distinction of race, religion, loads of isms a few ists and the odd ology to boot.
You watch what you say , I am half black and it seems to me that while I can say what I want you whites have to pick your words with delecate care. That is not a sign of freedom of speech to me.
Without freedom of speech there can be no liberty for anyone.
It is frustrating watching commentors try to put a square post into a round hole. No doubt in due course you will figure it out.

Our 'equalities' watchdog - using this as an excuse to shoehorn their way into the Army, while having nary a word to say about Islamic mobs chanting "Death to the Jews" on British streets.
